About Us
Our Company
Thank you for your interest in one of our Communities for yourself or a loved one.

We are LifeServices Assisted Living, a privately owned company that has developed, constructed, owns and directly operates nine premier assisted living communities throughout western Pennsylvania and the greater Cleveland, Ohio area.

LifeServices was founded in 1995 by our Co-Owners Mr. Scott D. Allen and Mr. Timothy W. Coughlin,  who together lead and manage all of our Communities on a day to day basis from their central office in Erie, Pa.    All LifeServices Communities strive to provide quality, resident directed, assisted living services to over 500 older people who live with us today in their own private apartment homes within our Communities.

Our philosophy of service and care is embodied in our Mission of four simple words that older people have taught us are important, “quality of life values”, to them:  Independence, Privacy, Dignity, and Choice.  Our residents have helped us understand that these four values are why they strived to remain in  their own homes as long as possible and what they seek from us when it’s time to join one of our Communities.  Every member of every Care Team shares the passion of those four words in every way they assist our residents.  At a LifeServices Community, we don’t “take care of old people.”  We “help older people take care of themselves.”

Resident directed care.  Come see and feel the difference.  Visit us today.
Mr. Scott D. Allen, Co-Owner
Mr. Allen, a lifelong Erie, Pennsylvania resident, is a licensed professional engineer having graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1973.   Mr. Allen was the longtime principal co-owner of Whipple-Allen Construction, one of the largest commercial general contractors in the Great Lakes area.

Mr. Allen  has led the design, financing, and construction of all nine of our assisted living communities with a strong emphasis upon residential design and interior decors that are aesthetically pleasing, yet supportive and functional, specifically to older people.   Prior to starting LifeServices Assisted Living, Mr. Allen developed and constructed over 30 different senior living complexes including independent living, subsidized senior living in both urban and rural settings, assisted living communities, personal care homes, and skilled nursing facilities.  Mr. Allen also currently sits on the Board and Care Standards Committee of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that formally sets the fire safety standards for assisted living communities and board and care residences throughout America.
Mr. Timothy W. Coughlin, Co-Owner
Mr. Coughlin, also a lifelong resident of Erie, Pennsylvania graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pre-Law.  As a former Area Agency on Aging Director, the majority of Mr. Coughlin’s career has been in the development and management of non-profit home and community based care services organized to help older people remain in their own homes and to avoid premature placement in nursing homes.  While working at Hamot Health Systems in 1985, a regional hospital system in Erie, Mr. Coughlin served as Project Officer for Springhill Senior Living Community, a $20 million, ten acre campus of care offering a full continuum of independent living, personal care, and skilled nursing care.

Mr. Coughlin currently serves as President of the Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA), the state association of assisted living providers that works with Pennsylvania Government to advocate for the interests of seniors living in assisted living.  Mr. Coughlin also serves as the Chairman of PALA’s Public Policy Committee, which three years ago, won a national public policy award related to fire safety regulatory requirements in Pennsylvania assisted living.
